Taking it Nice and Easy ... REALLY!
Just a quick update as I sit in the backyard enjoying the morning sunshine:
I’ve been home for a few days now. We were both shocked when they discharged me earlier than expected, but also thankful. It’s much nicer to recover at home. As for that, I think I’m doing well. I’m able to (slowly) get up and down the stairs on my own, although Jim is still keeping a close watch in case I need help. I take short walks around the backyard and I sit A LOT. I can make it through a few hours in this way, and then I hit a wall: my body just screams “No more energy!” and I take a 3 hour nap. π Everyone that’s worried that I will “overdue” currently has nothing to worry about. My body won’t let me!
This surgery was definitely more involved than my splenectomy two years ago. The incision is longer! Since they had to rebuild those blood vessels, I’ve been told that I can’t lift much for two months. Right now, with the pain and fatigue, that’s easy to handle. In a couple weeks when the incision site isn’t so painful, I’m going to need all your prayers to help me remain “slowed down.” I’m rarely good at that (probably not surprising to anyone...). π€ͺ. I will have to channel some of my immense stubbornness to help me through: yes, I admit it...I’m pretty stubborn.
Thank you all for the outpouring of support: calls, texts, emails, social media posts, meal gift cards, and most especially prayers. Please know how truly thankful both of us are for all of that. We will do our best to pay it forward in the future.
Oh and for those of you who have asked, of course I have our next 5 hikes and a couple road trips planned. What do you think I was doing while I sat in that hospital bed? Even the nurses knew. No less than three of them commented on my hiking tattoo. Thank you to my kids for encouraging that bit of shenanigans. I still love it!!
Love it!
